Japan 2018 Solo Traveler Budget

I ended up breaking my budget of 40/day in Japan which was unevitable. However, the damage inflicted was not as much as I previously thought.

The total amount spent was $714.42 coming out to an average of $54.96 a day. If I hadn’t treated myself for my birthday this would have been even less! Here are the hard numbers (doesn’t include my main expense, housing, or the SIM card I bought – however these are included in the total amount and average).

Restaurants: $183.7
Bills: $78.05
Entertainment: $74.07
Transit: $35.84
Alcohol: $23.76
Groceries: $17.35
Water: $9.41
Shopping: $16.5
Clothes: $4.5

These are my daily expenses, but I also bought a two week JR Rail Pass which was bloody expensive ($454 including tax/shipping) that is included in my July budget since I bought it early when I was still working. Including that in my Japan total brings my complete total of a trip to Japan up to….

$1168.42 !

I think that is pretty good considering how expensive Japan was and I was able to do two sheesheelala birthday treats. I am luckily spending little money so far in South Korea so by the time I arrive in SE Asia my total goal budget for the whole trip should be back on track.

Happy I am not poor from Japan.
