Taiwan 2018 Solo Traveler Budget

One week in and the money woes begin. Although I love the budget, the budget also stresses me out. Luckily, Taiwan was a fairly cheap country to travel in and on average I spent under my 40/day goal. I crunched all the numbers and (including lodging) I spent, on average, $31.82/day. The total amount I spent was $254.55.

My big purchase was:

– Power bank, mine died day one

Here is an overview of where I spent my money, this number is a little inflated because it includes a few things I bought in the States the day I left (not counting in my trip budget), but is overall accurate.

My biggest expense besides lodging (97.16) is food. I was able to get breakfast at my first hostel but besides that I ate out every meal. Girls gotta eat! Once I settle into one place for longer I will start cooking but since I only had a week in Taiwan I didn’t feel the need to cook.

My second biggest expense is transit. This includes the city bus, subway, and trains around the country. Something I haven’t mentioned is how much I walk. No heat can stop me! I haven’t taken a cab and walk around 20,000 steps a day, at least I did the day I was with my friend who has a pedometer!

The following categories were small compared to the main two (power bank I counted as a “Bill”) and I also started to keep track of how much money I spent on water. I used to lump water in with restaurants but now that I am moving around so much, stopping at 7/11 to grab a bottle becomes fairly frequent. I try to use my water bottle as much as I can but sometimes I don’t want to carry it for the whole day in the city and just drink water as I go.

Japan is already more expensive, but that is in part to the fact that it is my birthday and I am calling Japan my birthday gift to myself. I am staying in a fancier hotel and am treating myself to fancier food/food tours. My budget is still in play but I am going into the trip knowing that some days I will break it.

Peace,
T
