Bosnia & Herzegovina 2019 Solo Traveler Budget

My initial plan after Montenegro was to creep my way up the coast, through Dubrovnik (holla at me GOT), to finally end in Zagreb, where my flight to Barcelona was departing from. After arriving in Montenegro, I had a rude awakening in the form of tourist prices in the summer season. Hostel prices double, tourists are around in huge masses, and it is HOT. I decided to leave Croatia (arguably the most popular ‘Balkan’ country) for a different time. So, I bought a ticket to Mostar, BiH, and was on my way!

What is the word ‘plan’ these days?

The total for my stay in BiH is $215.49 with an average of $13.47 per day.

Big purchases:

– Housing.

Exact numbers:

Housing: $94.33
Transit: $40.69
Restaurant: $28.63
Grocery: $23.21
Health: $14.72
Alcohol: $5.99
Shopping: $4.68
Snacks: $3.24

I visited two towns in BiH. Mostar, a cute little town with cheap housing, and the capital, Sarajevo, where I decided what to do next. Feeling poor, I spent a lot of time walking, wandering, chatting, playing cards, and eating sandwiches. I initially planned to go north for a few weeks but after a free ride to Serbia fell in my lap…I was on my way to Belgrade.

Our favorite low budget activity in Mostar – drinking on the sniper tower!
